pArezhu kadalezhu malaiyezhumAy – He is the director of the seven worlds, the seven oceans and the seven mountains

sIrkezhum ivvulagEzhum ellAm Arkezhu vayitRinil adakki angku ninRu – He protected the seven wonderful universes in His beautiful stomach

By this it is explained that He is the supporter of all objects.

Orezhuththu OruruvAnavanE! – He is the meaning of the single letter ‘a’ which is the root of all words ( that are used to describe the above objects. )

O Lord of Thiruvinnagar!  Thou are the director of the seven worlds, the seven seas and the seven mountains.  Thou protected the seven beautiful universes by retaining them inside Thy beautiful stomach.  Thou are the source of all objects (that stand for different words).  Thou are the meaning of the letter ‘a’, which is the root of all words.  Please grace me with Thy vision and deliver me from this material existence.

Notes:

Thirumangai Azhvar speaks of Lord Srimannarayana being the supporter of all objects and all words that signify these objects.  The entirety of material existence is subject to the directions of Narayana.  As He protects entire universes in His stomach, He ultimately sustains all of them.  The scripture also says that Vishnu is the meaning of the letter ‘a’, which sustains the sounds of all words.  In essence, Narayana sustains both the objects and the words that convey those objects.

The commentator’s choice of words is remarkable when he makes a distinction between the beauty of the universe and that of His stomach.   The words used in the respective cases are ‘azhagu seydhu'(made beautiful) and ‘azhagu mikku irundhuLLa'( is overflowing with beauty).  The universes have been made beautiful, whereas the Lord’s eternal form is inherently beautiful.  The divine form of Srimannarayana naturally overflows with beauty.
